uPVC Bay windows can make a room appear larger, and provide views of the outside which would be unavailable with an ordinary flat window. A bay window protrudes from the house in three sections and is generally square, hexagonal or octagonal. A bow window is made up of casement windows arranged to create a curve – a good option on houses with existing flat windows.
Unlike the sash of a traditional sliding window, which hangs in a window frame by ropes, weights or other devices, a casement window is permanently mounted into a space. It doesn’t slide up and down, but moves inward and outward with a mechanical crank. Usually, screens for the windows are on the inside of the house.
uPVC Sash windows tend to be made up of two movable panels, otherwise known as ‘sashes’. The most common type of sash window, the ‘sliding sash’, is made up of two sashes that slide up and down, one in front and one behind, counterbalanced by lead weights on cords. In more modern sash windows though this has changed, and many have springs instead of weights.
Unlike traditional sliding window, the tilt and turn window moves away from the way ordinary windows function in that, by using a specialised hinge system, a tilt & turn unit can be opened either inward tilting or inward opening. This dual method of opening brings an additional level of functionality, as well as offering great appearance matched with ease of use and low maintenance.
We offer a range of uPVC flush casement windows that are perfect for period and heritage style homes.
